Tony Hillerman Writers Conference is back!

WORDHARVEST is delighted to announce a re-formatted Tony Hillerman's Writers Conference, which we're calling the Tony Hillerman Writer's Weekend. The program will be presented November 11-13, 2010, in beautiful Santa Fe, New Mexico. We'll offer two, all-day sessions and an optional pre-conference class on writing first chapters and synopses. The first full day, with author/teacher Margaret Coel, forcuses on the art of creating fascinating characters and irresistable dialog. The second, led by motivational speaker and much-published author Bill O'Hanlon, concentrates on the business of writing and selling your book. We'll honor the winner of the 2010 Tony Hillerman Prize for best first mystery at a dinner with guest speaker Valerie Plame Wilson.

As a bonus, author/editor/publisher Judith Van Gieson will offer optional first chapter critiques and a class on how to write a great opening to your novel or non-fiction book. Those who opt to attend the program on the 12-13 may attend Judith's class for free and get a price reduction on the manuscript critiques.

The Hillerman Prize update

Sponsored by St. Martin's Press and Wordharvest, this prize for best first mystery set in the Southwest continues the spirit of Tony Hillerman's work. Deadline for submissions was  JUNE 1. The winner will be announced at the Santa Fe conference at a dinner on Nov. 13. Please join us.

The first winner of the Tony Hillerman Price, Christine Barber, will join us at the conference. Roy Chaney's Ragged Edge of Nowhere received the price in 2008. In 2009, after considerable thought, St. Martin's Press decided not to name a winner.
